— Leading Japan’s Digital Transformation in Healthcare with a Strong, Synergistic, and Competitive Organization —
[This press release is a translation based on the release announced by Wemex on October 1, 2025 (local time)]
Wemex Corporation (Headquarters: Shibuya-ku, Tokyo; President: Hideaki Takahashi; hereafter Wemex), a subsidiary of PHC Holdings Corporation (Headquarters: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo, hereafter PHCHD), announces the absorption of its subsidiary, Wemex Healthcare Systems Corporation (Headquarters: Shinagawa-ku, Tokyo; President: Junji Obara; hereafter WHS), with Wemex as the residual company effective October 1, 2025. By integrating the two companies’ business operations, technologies, and customer bases, Wemex seeks to create synergies and build a strong, competitive corporate structure that will further contribute to advancing the digital transformation of healthcare in Japan.
Background and Challenges
In recent years, the healthcare and medical market environment in Japan has changed dramatically, driven by the government’s push for digital transformation, the entry of new players from other industries, and the rise of innovative business models. Wemex recognizes the importance of responding promptly to these changes, providing high-quality products and services, and consistently meeting the expectations and needs of its customers.
WHS was formed in 2023 when PHCHD acquired the business related to electronic medical record and medical-receipt systems from FUJIFILM Healthcare Systems Corporation*1. To respond to market changes, Wemex and WHS have been working toward optimizing organizational efficiency through product integration, office consolidation, and personnel exchanges since the acquisition. With this integration, the two companies aim to strengthen the organization, streamline management decision-making, and create synergies that will improve operational efficiency. Together, the companies will seek to accelerate the delivery of high-value-added solutions.
Leading the Market with a Strong Customer Base
Since developing and releasing Japan’s first medical-receipt computer in 1972, the healthcare IT business that is now Wemex has spent over 50 years revolutionizing operations in the medical industry through the power of digital technology, all while continuously adapting to changes in society and government policies. Leveraging its advanced technological expertise, a strong base of over 40,000 customers, and a well-established nationwide support network, Wemex currently holds the No. 1 market share*2 in electronic medical record systems (EMR) for clinics and medical-receipt computers for clinics and hospitals in Japan.
WHS has also accumulated extensive expertise in medical IT over many years, providing IT systems that support medical workplaces, including EMRs, medical receipts, and electronic medication histories for medical and dental clinics, pharmacies, and hospitals.
Following this absorption, the integrated company will have a customer base exceeding 55,000 customers in Japan. This expanded structure will allow for the optimal use of management resources. Moving forward, the company will harness the synergies created by combining the strengths of both entities.

Building a Robust Organization by Responding to Government Policy Initiatives
To advance digital transformation in healthcare, the Japanese government has set a goal of achieving a 100% adoption rate of EMR systems by 2030. As of 2023, approximately 55% of medical clinics and 65% of general hospitals have installed EMR systems*3. Wemex is participating in the Japanese government’s Digital Agency "Standardized EMR Product Working Group"*4. To address customer needs and align with policy trends, Wemex launched its fully cloud-based EMR system for clinics, "Medicom Cloud EMR," in April 2025*5. With a comprehensive lineup of on-premises, hybrid, and cloud-based solutions, Wemex is well positioned to meet diverse customer needs and provide strong support for digital transformation while further enhancing its organizational foundation for future growth.
Contributing to Japan’s Medical and Healthcare Sectors
With the expanded customer base achieved through this integration and the enhanced portfolio built in response to policy initiatives, Wemex will contribute to Japan’s healthcare and medical sectors across a wide range of areas, extending beyond clinics to include pharmacies, hospitals, telemedicine, and wellness initiatives (prevention and pre-symptomatic care). For pharmacies, Wemex supports business management and operations through solutions such as EMRs, medical-receipt computers, and AI-powered tools for medication record input assistance. These solutions allow pharmacists to spend more time with patients and contribute to improving the quality of healthcare services. In hospitals, Wemex provides customized solutions centered on EMRs and medical-receipt computers, addressing the specific needs and scales of facilities to support efficient implementation of team-based medical care. In the telemedicine sector, Wemex solutions reduce the workload of healthcare professionals and improve patient access to medical care by supporting the development of collaborative systems among clinics and hospitals, particularly in remote regions and in perinatal and neonatal care. In the wellness sector, such as prevention and pre-symptomatic care, Wemex offers solutions to improve operational efficiency for companies, health insurance associations, medical checkup providers, and health advisory organizations and assists with better health management for individuals including employees and their families.

Hideaki Takahashi, President of Wemex, said, “This integration represents a significant step toward responding swiftly and flexibly to the evolving challenges faced by healthcare professionals and the front line of medical practices. With the collective efforts of our employees, we are dedicated to providing value-added solutions to around 55,000 medical institutions and pharmacies across Japan. We remain committed to leading Japan’s digital transformation in healthcare and strive to become a top company supporting healthcare and medical services in Japan.”
